Scholarship Essay Contest!
The 2016 Scholarship Essay Contest
All applicants must meet the following criteria:
The applicant must be a DARE Graduate.
The applicant must be an immediate family member of a current FDOA Member or an immediate family member of a current Florida Law Enforcement Officer. The applicant shall be considered an 'immediate family member' only if the applicant is a son, daughter, step-son, step-daughter, grandson, grand-daughter or legally adopted child of the member/officer.
The applicant must be less than 24 years of age.
The applicant must be a high school senior or entering any year of an accredited college or university.
No applicant may receive this award more than 4 times.
The applicant must submit an essay on the subject, “How The D.A.R.E. Program Has Impacted My Life".
The essay must be typed on the indicated subject and be between 750-1000 words.
No mention of the applicant's name, the Member's/Officer's name, the college/university, or the applicant's major is to be made in the body of the essay.
The applicant must submit a statement affirming that he/she is the author of the essay and a member of the immediate family of a current FDOA member or Florida Law Enforcement Officer. The statement must include the qualifying person's name and agency.
In order to qualify for consideration all materials must be post marked no later than June 15, 2016.
The Scholarships are reviewed by a committee of educators according to a rubric. The essays are ranked by this committee and the top ranking essay writers are then selected for awards. The committee has no access to the names of the essay writers and the Board of Directors establishes the amount of awards in accordance to the By-laws prior to knowing the identities of the recipients.
